Ornamental kale plants (Brassica oleracea) are an attractive and edible variety of kale. Plants with serrated or fringed leaf margins are considered the flowering kales, which are further divided into the 'fringed leaved cultivars' (those with ruffled leaves) and the 'feather leaved cultivars' (those with more finely serrated leaves). The leaves form beautiful rosettes, lending the plat ornamental value. The kale leaves are used in a variety of food items. This plant displays bold shades of white and purple to the garden’s quiet seasons of fall and early winter. This is an ornamental plant; although the leaves can be eaten, they’re really only good for garnish or as a base for such dishes as egg salads or salad assortments. Ornamental Kale Fringed leaves mixed, also called flowering kale, rarely put out real flowers. The color is all in their extravagantly ruffled and feathered leaves.
